The Caladium Residence was a complete renovation with modest addition to a 1965 ranch-style house in Dallas. Crafting an environment that would foster togetherness and peace, while giving two energetic little boys room to roam was a high priority for the design team. The family sought flexible spaces that could be used in a variety of ways and adapted over time, without square footage that would go unused. A flowing layout, asymmetrical vaulted ceilings, large pocket doors, and wide hallways facilitate entertaining and play while capturing a sense of magic and intrigue for the boys. Understated finishes and expanses of glazing instill a strong indoor-outdoor connection and a feeling of calm. The project takes an inventive approach to reusing and reinvigorating the sort mid-60s and mid-70's ranch-style housing stock that is otherwise being torn down in many parts of Dallas and the U.S.
